Project partner

The implementation partner for this initiative is Rotary Club of Kathmandu West, which was led by President Rtn. Rajesh Kayestha. This is their flagship project in the education sector and its board is committed to implement the project in two schools every year. eBlackboard is also committed to work very closely with the Rotary Club throughout the lifecycle of the project to ensure a successful outcome. One of the key attributes of this project will be to evaluate performance through quarterly assessments. This would help to benchmark and measure the impact of introducing interactive learning methodology through the use of latest computer technology.

At present the school teaches computer lessons only to classes 7 and 8, a total of 45 students. They have one full-time computer teacher to teach computer courses to the students theoretically. The computer courses are based on the national curriculum, like in most public schools of Nepal. The new set of six stand-alone computer terminals using the Raspberry Pi technology will add tremendous value to enhance their learning environment.

The six set of computer systems based on the latest 'System on a chip (SoC)' technology including 19" HP monitors were donated to the school principal amidst a special 'Handover Ceremony' presided by the key administrative staff of the Panauti Municipality office.

Six sets of monitors, keyboards, mouse, and speakers, each powered by a Raspberry Pi 3 (SoC technology), were installed by eBlackboard team members Nabin Acharya and Shaunak Acharya. Each Raspberry Pi 3 was loaded with a microSD card with 'E-Paath' installed. This is an interactive digital content developed by a local nonprofit organization. The content is based on the national curriculum so the students could complement their English, Math, Nepali and Science classes taught in a traditional classroom setting with a more interactive computer based learning methodology. The learning modules and assessments are available in both English and Nepali languages.

A short demo/training on how to use the E-Paath 'digital' curriculum was provided by Shaunak Acharya to a handful of students and couple of school staff members. Shaunak showed how to bring the landing screen of E-Paath in the browser so a student could select his grade and subject to start the interactive lessons in the computer. The school staff were given guidance on how to structure their computer classes to go hand-in-hand with the curriculum they follow in the classrooms.

The implementation was a success.
